Hezen Cave Hotel is a small design-focused cave hotel in Ortahisar. It was created from eight old rock-carved houses and currently has 19 cave rooms and suites. Its biggest strengths are its intimate size, castle and valley views, modern design inside authentic cave spaces, and a quieter setting away from the busiest parts of Goreme.

Where is Hezen Cave Hotel?

Hezen is in Ortahisar, directly below the dramatic Ortahisar Castle area. The hotel's elevated terraces look across the castle and Balkandere Valley.

The hotel currently places itself about 2 km from Red Valley, 3 km from Goreme Open Air Museum, and roughly 8 km from both Urgup and Uchisar.

A genuinely small boutique hotel

Hezen began in 2011 by restoring eight ancient rock-carved houses into 19 cave rooms and suites. This makes it one of the smaller properties in our main Cappadocia hotel-review collection.

The smaller scale gives the hotel a different feel from large properties such as Argos, Yunak Evleri or Kayakapi. The focus is more on personalised service, design and quiet common terraces.

What are the rooms like?

All rooms are cave rooms. The hotel currently groups them into four categories: Standard Cave Room, Cave Suite, Superior Cave Suite and Superior Family Suite.

Every room is individually designed, so layouts and decoration are different even within the same category.

Room sizes

Standard Cave Rooms are roughly 15–25 m². Cave Suites are around 40–45 m² and include a separate living area. Superior Suites are around 70–90 m², while Superior Family Suites are around 100 m² with two bedrooms and a living room.

Superior Suite and hammam-style bathroom

The Superior Cave Suites are especially useful to compare if you want more space. They currently include a king-size bed, separate living room, air conditioning and a large Turkish hammam-style bathroom.

Some Superior Suites open toward a garden or Ortahisar Castle view.

Family suites

The Superior Family Suite is one of the more practical family rooms in the Ortahisar area. It is approximately 100 m² and currently includes two bedrooms, a large living room and hammam-style bathroom.

The hotel says this category can accommodate up to six people.

Do all rooms have views?

No. This is important. The hotel's own FAQ explains that most cave rooms open toward shared courtyards rather than directly onto panoramic views.

Only some Superior Suites have direct castle or garden views. If a view from inside your room matters to you, confirm the exact room before booking.

No jacuzzis, bathtubs or pools in the rooms

Hezen deliberately does not install jacuzzis, bathtubs or private pools in its cave rooms. The hotel says this is a water-conservation decision because water demand is an increasing concern in Cappadocia.

Instead, the higher room categories use large hammam-style shower bathrooms.

Breakfast and Hezen Restaurant

Breakfast is one of the features highlighted by both the hotel and current guest reviews. Hezen says it focuses on locally sourced foods, fresh pastries, eggs, omelets and freshly squeezed orange juice.

Hezen Restaurant serves Turkish and Anatolian-style food with local ingredients and currently caters for vegetarian and vegan guests as well.

Hezen's official website currently states that the hotel received One MICHELIN Key in 2025, recognising the overall quality of the hotel stay rather than the restaurant alone.

Hezen is a strong match for couples and families who want a quiet, small-scale cave hotel rather than a resort. It also suits travellers who care about design and personalised service.

Families can make particularly good use of the 100 m² Superior Family Suites.

Who may prefer another hotel?

If a swimming pool, spa complex or private hot tub is essential, Hezen is not the strongest match. Aza, Museum Hotel, Argos or Kayakapi offer more extensive wellness facilities.

If you want to walk out of the hotel into Goreme's busiest streets every evening, a Goreme property will also be easier.
